Con Connor (celticshoes.ie)
Gaelic Slipper, Shoe and Boot
Con has visited the National Museum of Ireland, Armagh Museum, Belfast Museum and the Museum of London Archaeology and has seen all currently known examples of the Gaelic Slipper, aka the Lucas Type 1. At this talk you can actually hold and feel artefact replicas of a type of footwear that our ancestors used to wear. Also on display will be redesigned modern wearable versions of the Lough Gara shoe (late Bronze Age) and the Dublin Boot (Brian Boru era). Con will be wearing his 'Brian Boru' boots and his wife Niamh will be wearing his 'Lough Gara' shoes.
Con is a Celtic Druid, Lecturer, Author, Researcher and leathercraft artisan who makes a forgotten style of a uniquely indigenous Irish Celtic footwear. Dispelling the myth that the 'Irish did not wear shoes' his museum research has allowed reverse engineering of known artefacts to recreate replicas of ancient Irish footwear.
