Restoration, Recording and Public Presentation of Drumgoon Hill Graveyard, Cootehill, Co.Cavan
A community-based volunteer group was established in 2016 and took over responsibility for maintaining the graveyard. The presentation will cover:
The work done to clear overgrowth, ditches, thin out trees growing on the bank and the biodiversity implications.
The mapping , topographical & geophysical surveys of the graveyard and ringfort carried out by Kevin Barton.
The creation of a data base of photographs & recording sheets in respect of each “memorial” recorded.
The inscribed graveslabs and headstones from the 1700’s
Acknowledgement of the Heritage Council and other project funders.
As one of a number of volunteers, Bernard Liddy is involved in all aspects of our project to maintain, map and record Drumgoon Hill Graveyard. Our mission is to create a record of its history from all known sources, our work is on-going.
