Reeling in the Years: ‘Drumgoon Hill in its historic landscape’
Our community with professional help has researched many aspects of the site. Community participation has enabled the graveyard to be mapped and memorial inscriptions to be recorded. Geological, geophysical and environmental surveys have contributed to an assessment of the graveyard leading to the development of a conservation and management plan. Funding was secured to have a chance find of charcoal and slag radiocarbon dated. We have looked further afield to tie the graveyard into the wider historic landscape with monuments dating from 5000 BC to the present. This work has resulted in the production of a short video to inform the public and in particular school children.
