Rathcroghan Conference 2016: Archaeology Above & Below
Programme
_The programme of contributors at Archaeology Above & Below 2016 espouses the spirit of community archaeology, as we look at projects and activities at very different stages of development, and incorporate a wide range of techniques and procedures, all with one goal in mind: to understand more about the landscapes we inhabit.
The sessions are divided thematically, with one session given over entirely to the remote sensing techniques that enable us to interpret monuments and landscapes in an uncomplicated and non-invasive fashion.
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Michael Gibbons, well-known Field Archaeologist and Heritage Tourism Professional hailing from Clifden, Co. Galway, to provide what will be an engrossing Keynote Lecture, entitled: 'Radio Archaeology in Ireland - The History and Archaeology of the Marconi Telegraph Station, Clifden, Connemara, 1905-1923', to round off the proceedings on a very busy first day of the conference.
We finish the second day with a unique tour of the extraordinary multi-vallate enclosure of Rathra, led by Joe Fenwick of NUI, Galway, an authority on both Rathcroghan and Rathra.
