The Church of the Rath: Waking the Past
The Church of the Rath, Killeshandra, Co.Cavan, is described as being architecturally unique in all of Ulster. Its recorded origins date back to the fourteenth century when Augustinian monks from nearby Drumlane abbey built a small church on a rath site. The site is presently cared for by a local community group and it won an Adopt a Monument competition organized by the Heritage Council in 2016. It was one of only five sites selected in the entire country that year to benefit from mentoring and support to help care for the heritage of the site. Plans are now underway for conservation.
