Artefacts and placemaking: the role of the National Collections (Keynote Lecture)
The National Museum of Ireland is the State repository for archaeological objects from Ireland. This lecture will look at how curators work at a local level and will examine future ways in which the Museum can work with local communities in order to forge sustainable connections between museums, and communities to foster greater connections between objects and people.
Maeve Sikora is a graduate of University College Cork Department of Archaeology and has worked in the National Museum of Ireland since 2001. She has worked as Keeper of Irish Antiquities since 2001. Her research interests include Viking age Ireland, and the archaeology of death and burial. As curator Maeve has worked on many national and international loan projects and has been involved in fieldwork and outreach around the country.
