Anthony Brogan & Jim Henry, Táin Bó Fhliodhais Committee
The Táin Bó Fhliodhais (TBF) Project steering committee was formed in 2017 to drive the development of a series of walking trails to commemorate the ancient route of the TBF through the Mayo landscape. The committee is composed of a wide range of interested individuals with broad experience in Celtic Mythology, Archaeology, Tourism, and the Gaelic language.
The hope is that the TBF will become a focus of interest for recreational walkers and explorers and that through the interpretation of the archaeological sites on the ground, people can engage with the heritage of the TBF in a very tangible way, having read the tale itself in a new edition to be published in 2018.
The inaugural TBF Walking Festival took place in May of last year and plans are underway this year to commemorate the 750th Anniversary of the Glenmassan Manuscript which contains a complete version of the TBF.
The talk will consist of a brief description of the route of the Tain Bo Flidhais as far as it is known in the modern landscape followed by an illustrated account of the archaeological sites that still survive on the landscape.
