Summer heat, cropmarks and a “done deal” drone
2018 saw unusually hot weather that led to record-breaking temperatures during the summer. Road tar melted, gorse and forest fires were numerous and the the landscape became dry and fragile. It was this unusual event that resulted in the deployment of an inexpensive drone and amateur pilot skills to scan my local landscape, consisting of different types of cultivation, revealing numerous unrecorded and unusual crop marks. I am currently engaged in planning the follow-up of selected cropmarks using remote sensing techniques.
